Her Favorite Hot Doc (Windy City Romance Book 3)

Her Favorite Hot Doc (Windy City Romance Book 3)

by Barbara Lohr

Romance isn’t on his mind when Dr. Logan Castle meets midwife McKenna Kirkpatrick, but give her time. She’s good at riling things up, and Logan soon learns he likes to be riled. Full of spunk, McKenna presents a challenge for the handsome head of her department when she joins Montclair Specialty Hospital. Ranked a Chicago Hot Doc, Logan favors established protocols while McKenna likes to push the envelope. She’s been brought on board to shake things up and Hot Doc gets the message. Thrown together on a department revamp, Logan soon discovers that McKenna generates her own heat. Their initial meeting at the Purple Frog becomes a slow seduction. Only McKenna could turn a plate of french fries into a romantic tease. One swish of her fiery red hair and Logan realizes more than the direction of their department is at stake. He’s operated within strict parameters since his divorce. This woman brings a surge of a romantic heat that could change his whole world, if he allows it.
When McKenna impulsively invites him to a family party, Logan is intrigued by the boisterous Kirkpatrick clan. He’s an only child, and this is a rollicking crew. But her five year-old nephew snags his heart, reopening an old wound. Beneath her saucy exterior, McKenna harbors her own hurt. She struggles with her own pain. When their chemistry sends her reeling, she tries to relegate him to the category of friend or buddy. She’s used to calling the shots, but Logan has other plans.
After calling him in to consult on a patient, McKenna questions whether the patient’s miscarriage is somehow her fault. Hot Doc offers comfort that turns steamy in a heartbeat. Feeling her control slipping away, McKenna throws up a fire shield and tries to interest him in an attractive colleague. But although Dr. Priscilla Preston, their new colleague, would seem a logical choice for Hot Doc, he’s a man with his own mind. Logan sets McKenna straight fast. A casual day on his sailboat turns to personal pursuits when Hot Doc wants to sample more than her chocolate dipped strawberries. A well meaning massage becomes a romantic exploration. Good thing Lake Michigan is so close at hand. But as McKenna sinks into the cool water, she wonders…is she getting in over her head?
Observing McKenna during a tricky case in the water birthing suite becomes an aphrodisiac for Logan. Later, McKenna thinks she’s joining him for rounds on the OB floor, but Hot Doc has romance on his mind when he steers her into his private office. The heated exchange leaves them both wondering where this relationship is heading. The Board agrees to raise funds for the OB renovation as well as new technology. For now, they’ve side-stepped a head-to-heart conflict.
When Logan joins the Midwives in Action group for their yearly mission in Guatemala, McKenna views the week as a test. Will the primitive conditions in the highlands shake Hot Doc from his comfort zone? Together, they work long, grueling days under some pretty rough conditions. The grateful patients warm to Logan, and so does McKenna. Nothing is too menial for this man. His compassion deepens her feelings and in a raw moment of passion, McKenna unleashes the L word. His response stuns her. Has she jumped the gun on this romance? Is this a man who can love her and father her children?
The Montclair Foundation fund raising efforts for OB kicks off with a golf outing, where McKenna meets Cecile Montclair, Logan’s grandmother. In her charming but pragmatic manner, Cecile helps McKenna see past Hot Doc’s silence. Logan’s way ahead of both women and has delved into his own heart. Will he be like the chocolates hidden in McKenna’s desk? Irresistible and so very hard to refuse? A subtly sexy romance. Her Favorite Hot Doc is the third book in the Windy City Romance series.

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*
Ok, so this was a cute little romance. The characters were cute. McKenna annoyed me at times. There really was no reason for her to be so stand offish with Logan, but I could understand why he wanted slow. In reality, he knew what he wanted and went for it. This story, was decent, but I would have never picked it up to buy if it wasn't given to me. The blurb is huge and basically gives away the whole book! There are a few editing errors in the copy I have.
"That bossy part in you? Get used to me doing stuff for you. You don't have to take on the world alone, McKenna Kirkpatrick." It was romantic and sweet when the characters stopped fighting it. I loved McKenna's big family and how close they were. It was a cute little read, but it took me a few days to get through, when normally I'm whipping through books. It's a toss up. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. It was just an okay read, hence the 3 stars.
