The Unlikely Lady (Playful Brides)

The Unlikely Lady (Playful Brides) by Valerie Bowman

FOR THE BACHELOR AND THE BLUESTOCKING…
Certain that no man wants a bluestocking for a wife, Miss Jane Lowndes is careful to wield her books and her spectacles as weapons against matrimony. Convincing her ambitious mama that she's content to stay a spinster is easier said than done, however. It's a good thing Jane is not above a bit of manufactured scandal if it will keep her from the altar, and the argumentative, contrary Lord Garrett Upton…

ROMANCE IS NEVER BY THE BOOK

With the war over, Garrett is determined to enjoy his bachelor's life while he can, even when it means attending a house party in celebration of a friend's wedding--and suffering Jane's notorious disdain. But when a masquerade ball leads to a mistaken kiss, he's surprised to learn that Jane's bookish exterior hides a truly passionate soul. When two such headstrong people are determined to remain unattached, can love lead to a happy ending?

I am an avid Historical Romance reader. I love the historicals. They are always sexy and interesting, action and more. This book, though a cute premise and wonderful characters, it was so long and dragged on and on, that I got bored. I wanted to know what happened, but the in between parts were just way to long in between and I wanted to stop reading.
Of course, I didn't, I finished the book. How could I not? I needed to know what happened. Beyond getting bored by how long the story felt, I thought the girls were fun. The games they played, trying to set Jane and Garrett up together were adorable. I felt they were silly and fun characters. Jane, well she was independent, head strong and wonderful. I feel if I lived in that area, she so would be me! Garrett, well damn. The man couldn't figure out what he wanted, but he was so hot it didn't matter. I fell in love with this man.
The drama was great. It flowed well without being over the top. I've read some where the drama is so far fatched and too much that I end up rolling my eyes instead of enjoying it. That's not this book. The plot was just wonderful, I only feel it could have been trimmed down a bit to flow the whole story better! If you enjoy historicals, I certainly suggest this author.
