Being from Western New York, I'm a huge huge huge hockey fan! Yes! This book is awesome. Of course there are ups and downs. I love Toni Aleo, and have read all of her books.. but Tangled in the Laces makes me want to go "Misery style" on her, waiting for the book to accompany this heartbreaking story. Yes, I cried. Hooking Hannah, awesome story. Cassandra Carr and Cindy Carr make a great writing team, I love it. Well written, sexy, and I'm begging for more. This story is most likely my favorite in the box set.
Crashing the Boards, great mature couple, sexy, um, have I mentioned how much I love hockey?! This is a first for me from this author and I'm certainly interested now. Taking a Shot, Catherine Gayle. Before this box set, I had never heard of her. But, from the looks of it, she writes a lot of Historical, NA type books. I'm not a huge fan of NA, YA stuff. But, this story is very emotional. The way the author conveys this, you certainly forget about the age of the characters.
A Valuable Trade by Jaymee Jacobs, well, I hated it. It's the only reason this box set got a 4 star instead of 5 star rating. Um, juvenile, boring, horrible dialogue. Well, that's me being nice. This story was just awful. I'm not trying to be mean, but when I read all these great stories, then get to this one, I almost didn't want to finish the book. Thankfully, I didn't hold it against the other authors. Heir Apparent from VL Locey, this is another author I hadn't heard of until this box set. This is one author I'll be looking forward to picking up some books from! The story was well written, and definitely redeemed this box set after "The Bad One".
Blind Pass from Bianca Sommerland was good. The characters were thought out, I liked them, but, I'm not sure I would continue on with their journey. It didn't really hook me and hold me in. Then we have Captain, My Captain by Nikki Worrell. Well, the plot was so see through, I could have told it to you without finishing it. It wasn't horribly written,and I didn't hate it.. but there were definitely a few parts that could have been cut out, to keep the story flowing. Getting caught up and off tangent almost ruined the story completely for me. I would have loved to see the author stick to their plot and not stray. I most likely wouldn't continue with the story in a full size book.
All in all, this is a great box set to pick up. Some awesome authors, and great hockey stories, well, it's perfect for someone like me. Sure, there was some disappointment, but not enough for me to dislike the book. These authors are trying to do a good thing. They are raising money and bringing awareness to a great cause. I commend them for it! You should really pick this box set up! It's worth it.
